A Man of Maryvale: Honoring Roger Waesche, Jr., LS ’68

The Maryvale community is deeply saddened by the loss of Roger Waesche, Jr. LS ’68, a former Maryvale Trustee and Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee. Roger retired from the Maryvale Board of Trustees in May 2025 after years of dedicated service to the school he loved.

“A man of integrity and passion, Roger was the finest of human beings. He readily gave of his heart to make a difference for our community,” shared Patty Brown `78, former Chair of the Maryvale Board. She added, “As chair of our finance committee, he listened intently, understood the challenges and opportunities, and, with both precision and simplicity, directed a pathway forward. A true “Man of Maryvale,” Roger embodied Maryvale’s commitment to make known God’s goodness through educating young women for life.”

Roger attended Maryvale from kindergarten through eighth grade, graduating from the Lower School in 1968. While Maryvale is now an all-girls institution, he was part of its former co-ed elementary program.

A respected commercial real estate and corporate executive, Roger brought more than 35 years of investment, financial and operational experience to his professional work. He was the Co-Founder and Principal of Waeber Property Group LLC, a commercial real estate company focused on investments in the Mid-Atlantic and Southwest Florida regions. He brought this same expertise, along with deep care and thoughtfulness, to his service on the Maryvale Board.

"Roger was an extraordinarily kind and gentle person who gave a tremendous amount of time and energy to the institutions he served,” said Malika DeLancey, President of Maryvale. “He was a proud "Man of Maryvale." As a board member and finance committee chair, Roger stewarded the school’s finances with intentionality and care. He understood the business of schools and that people come first. Roger will be missed deeply by the Maryvale community."

Roger is survived by his wife, Xandy, his four sons, and four grandchildren, with a fifth expected next month. His life touched many, and his legacy will live on through all who knew and loved him.

Roger was featured in the Spring 2025 Mitchell Leadership Edition of the Maryvale Messenger, where he reflected on the lasting impact of his Maryvale education:

“While my Maryvale education was foundational as I progressed in school, what has endured is the core belief that every human is sacred. This principle guided my approach to leadership, fostering a culture of caring, trust, and respect within my teams.”

We are so grateful for Roger's time, dedication, and service to Maryvale. He will continue to inspire our community.
