For the 2025-2026 school year, the Mitchell Leadership Institute expanded two major programs: Financial Literacy and Experiential Learning.

Maryvale prepares young women for life.  And that means how to understand, manage and grow their finances.  Maryvale has invested in broad Financial Literacy curriculum and we are just getting started.

In addition to our elective courses on Micro/MacroEconomics, and Fundamentals of Business, for this school year:

  • All 10th graders will learn the basics and nuances of Personal Finance via a 6 session mandatory course taught by Sarah Ramsey.

  • All 11th graders will learn advanced financial management includes stocks, portfolio management, real estate, taxation and insurances via several required sessions taught by Rich Englar culminating in a "day of adulting" where our students put their learning into practical application.

And, for the second year, Maryvale will be competing nationally via our Stock Market Club. The club plays The Stock Market Game, sponsored by the Maryland Council on Economic Education. Students compete in teams to build and manage a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

We are expanding our dynamic initiative to empower young women through early career exposure and hands-on learning experiences.

Ms. Barbara Mantler has joined The Mitchell Leadership Institute to lead the development and execution of internships, shadow days, and our Leadership Speaker Series. She already took two Leadership Scholars to the 2025 State of the Woman Conference.

Ms. Mantler will collaborate across campus and with community partners to every graduate gains real-world experience in and out of the classroom. By pairing students with professionals in fields of interest, the program aims to cultivate confidence and a greater understanding of the diverse career opportunities available to women. Our goal is to help students explore potential career paths and learn the skills necessary to lead and succeed in the professional workplace.
