Our Mission

Maryvale, a Catholic independent girls' school serving grades six through 12, affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, provides an environment in which each student can reach her academic, spiritual, physical, and civic potential in a loving, supportive, and diverse community. Building upon its unique and special heritage, Maryvale's mission is to provide an exceptional education that responds to change and prepares young women for life.

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are an International Apostolic Congregation of Catholic Sisters, founded by St. Julie Billiart (1751-1816) in Amiens, France in 1804. Today, the Sisters serve in fifteen countries on five continents. Their mission is making known God's goodness through educating for life.

The Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

Hallmarks are the essential characteristics, values and actions that differentiate a Notre Dame de Namur learning community.

The Hallmarks emerged in response to the question: "What distinguishes a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community?”

The Sisters and the learning communities began to explore this question in 2003 and seven Hallmarks were developed that concisely and beautifully express the values of a Notre Dame Learning Community. In 2024, Hallmark #3 was revised to add “care for all creation” as a response to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ encyclical.

The Office of Mission and Ministry at Maryvale

The Office of Mission and Ministry, deeply rooted in faith, service, and community, is committed to the Seven Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as its guiding principles. It plays a crucial role in guiding the Maryvale community to live the School's mission, establish a strong presence of the Catholic Church's faith traditions, and foster an inclusive community where all members are valued, seen, and heard. Mission and Ministry provide opportunities for the Maryvale community to embody our mission through our proclamation of God's goodness, education and advocacy, purposeful service, and embracing the gift of diversity—encompassing care for all creation.

The three pillars of Mission and Ministry are:

Each pillar helps us become Maryvale and establish our strong sense of identity. The Office of Mission and Ministry, in conjunction with the Seven Hallmarks, informs us who we are as an institution.
