Maryvale Learning Support is making an impact beyond the Baltimore community.
“Strategies that we use all the time were new to the people in our audience,” explained Erin Rothwell, Co-Director of Maryvale Learning Support.
Rachel Mays, Co-Director of Maryvale Learning Support, added, “We gave them practical strategies that will immediately impact their students with ADHD.”
Erin and Rachel presented at the International ADHD Conference in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, November 15. Their presentation was called “Study Skills to Help Students with ADHD Thrive.” They were blown away by how engaged and interactive the community was for their presentation. There was a mix of people from evaluators and ADHD coaches to psychologists and psychiatrists to teachers and parents.
They shared what they do every day in the Maryvale Learning Support programs like how they help students implement different tools and strategies. Erin and Rachel mentioned a lot of people were focused on the programs: St. Julie Billiart’s 2-1 model for students with language-based learning differences and Ford’s 5-1 models for students with ADHD or executive functions.
While at the conference, both specialists learned more about genetics of ADHD and strategies that can specifically help parents with their children. Erin shared, “we’re always evolving. There is always room for improvement and room to learn. When you learn how people do things differently, it gives a different dimension.
This is a passion for both Erin and Rachel. Before becoming Co-Directors, they went to the National ADHD Conference in Baltimore as Learning Specialists and knew they wanted to present one day. They set their mind to it and made it happen.
“We’re always happy to talk about our programs. They’ve been so successful here at Maryvale and we want to share all the good things to help more students,” said Rachel.
Their next presentation is at The GreenMount School, a K-8 independent school in Baltimore.
Expanding the reach in Baltimore and beyond!
