The mission of Health Services at Maryvale Preparatory School is to foster the health and well-being of all students, supporting their academic success through comprehensive physical and mental health care.
Wellness at Maryvale
Our dedicated team includes three counselors, two athletic trainers, and a nurse, who work together to provide essential services such as first aid, administration of medication (with authorization from parents/guardians and physicians), and specialized care to address the unique needs of each student. We also collaborate with parents, teachers, and school leadership to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s health and development.
In addition to daily care, we offer programs and resources focused on prevention, wellness, and education around healthy lifestyle choices, mental health awareness, and stress management. By prioritizing both mental and physical health, we strive to create an environment where students feel supported, safe, and empowered to achieve their personal and academic goals. Our commitment is to nurture each student’s potential, fostering resilience and promoting a balanced, healthy school experience.
Counseling
At Maryvale, our School Counseling Department is committed to supporting and nurturing each student’s whole self including mind, heart, and spirit. Through an integrated and proactive counseling program, we promote mental health, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth with compassion, collaboration, and a focus on the individual needs of our students.
Our dedicated counselors are available to provide solution-focused counseling, connect students with resources, offer psycho-education, and facilitate peer mediation. We work closely with students to help them navigate difficult emotions, manage stress, build resilience, strengthen social connections, and address challenges that commonly arise during adolescence. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based best practices and a deep understanding of the developmental journey from childhood to young adulthood.
We believe that strong partnerships with families, faculty, and staff are essential to student success. Our counselors offer additional support through parent education programs, connections with community practitioners, professional learning opportunities for teachers, assistance with managing extended student absences, and the promotion of relevant resources on important topics related to student development and mental health. Counselors collaborate actively with faculty, staff and athletics to ensure that the school community is centered on student wellbeing.
At Maryvale, we are proud to offer a counseling program that reflects our deep commitment to fostering resilience, self-efficacy, joy, and a strong sense of belonging in every student we serve.
In addition to direct counseling services, our department designs and leads a wide range of programs focused on mental health and wellness. These efforts focus on proactive wellness, social-emotional skill building, and promoting self-advocacy and problem-solving skills.
