The Heart of Maryvale
Located on 100-plus acres in the Greenspring Valley, Maryvale's campus with sprawling woods, nature trails, streams and waterfalls is an idyllic setting for a school. The centerpiece of the picturesque campus is Wickcliffe Castle, modeled after Warwick Castle in Warwickshire, England. Completed in 1916, the Tudor-style building was the home of Dr. and Mrs. Walter F. Wickes and their five children.
Considered one of the largest private residences in the area at the time, Wickcliffe has 65 rooms. The largest room, the Great Hall, was often the location for lavish entertainment. In 1945, after the death of his wife, Dr. Wickes sold the estate, including many of its furnishings, to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur — establishing it as Maryvale Trinity College Preparatory School, a girls' boarding school.
A Castle with Purpose
Today, the Castle stands as a reminder of the School's rich history from a private home to a boarding school and now as a college preparatory institution. The Castle houses a chapel, library, administrative offices, and classrooms. The Truschel STEAM lab is in the lower level of the Castle while the Patricia J. Mitchell ’65 Leadership Institute is on the first floor. The Great Hall is a gathering place for music, lectures, holiday events, and dances.
A Campus Designed to Inspire
Bunting Hall, formerly known as the Middle School and named in recognition of the Bunting family, stands adjacent to the Castle, overlooking the woods. On the other side of the Castle is the former Carriage House, now used as the nurses' office. Erinn McCarthy Humanities Hall, features a state-of-the-art theater seating 500 guests, additional classrooms, a technology resource center, a dance studio, as well as choral and instrumental music rooms with practice suites. The main office is located in the Maria Luisa Rodriguez Center as well as the cafeteria and classrooms.
Athletic facilities include an artificial turf field, a regulation track with field event facilities, practice fields and a softball field. The gymnasium is located in Maguire Hall.
