Britta Brown is a graduate of Garrison Forest School and a former University of North Carolina lacrosse student‑athlete whose career has taken her from the playing field to the front offices of Division I athletics and the NBA.
Britta delivered an enthusiastic, heartful and relatable message to our school community.
Her message? “You got this!” Sharing three lessons she took from high school to the heights of her career, she encouraged our students to “stay true to your own journey” and assured them that “what they’re learning right now is preparing them for whatever their big stage holds for them.”
Britta shared the following lessons:
Lesson 1 = Discipline. Ask yourself, “What are you doing daily that you are trusted to do?” and “Are you doing what is right when NO ONE is watching?”
Lesson 2 = Teamwork and Collaboration. “Are you making ‘the thing’ about YOU or about your team?”
Lesson 3 = Confidence. “Are you willing to try the thing that scares you?”
Britta spoke about being an athlete, daughter, friend, and wife, noting that leadership is not a title; leadership is all around us. And women show up for other women. Example? Britta’s mother and best friend were in the audience today, cheering her on!
