Leadership Certificate Program

Maryvale Student Leaders

Maryvale is taking the lead once again, becoming the first all-girls' school to launch a Leadership Certificate Program.

Leadership Certificate Program

Inaugurated in the 2018-19 school year under the Leadership Institute, the Leadership Certificate Program provides students with specialized, in-depth leadership training and experiences that will further distinguish them throughout their educational, professional and personal endeavors. In addition to receiving a commemorative certificate of achievement, students who participate in this Upper School program will graduate from Maryvale having completed a specific course track, at least 30 leadership service hours, a capstone independent study, which draws heavily from original research and a comprehensive leadership interview.

Customized Curriculum

Our customized curriculum — developed by female leaders with decades of experience in business, medicine, education and law — is infused into every class and Advisory from grades six through 12. Whether Middle Schoolers are filming their own leadership video or Upper Schoolers are preparing for a Robotics competition, leadership lessons are deliberately offered at every turn.

Leadership and Technology Prep

This quarter-long course is designed to empower Maryvale ninth grade students to be prepared for the challenges of Upper School. Students have an early opportunity to develop their organizational, communication, research and goal-setting skills in a small group setting.

Foundations of Leadership

Drawing from the university model that uses outside speakers to enhance classroom presentation, this elective for 11th and 12th graders combines self-evaluation tools, reading, research and engagement with community leaders to foster individual leadership and self-confidence in each student. Guest speakers, field trips to leaders’ places of employment, project management, career coaching and interviewing, business etiquette, electronic footprints and other practical applications are explored.

Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Creativity

A hybrid course combining research and class discussion with hands-on student-led projects in an innovation lab, this new leadership elective illustrates how some of the most revolutionary and simplest ideas and products came into being. Students then have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and test their own creativity to develop new solutions for projects and address ongoing challenges. Guest speakers, field trips and case studies in areas of business operations and design all play an integral role in the progression of this course.

Middle School Leadership Courses

An integral part of the Middle School program, this yearlong leadership course at every grade level lays the groundwork for all students to begin developing and sharpening skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Goal-setting, team building, public speaking and written communication skills, as well as an introduction to financial literacy, are just a few of the topics covered.
