Art Intensives

Maryvale Art Intensives for Upper and Middle School StudentsThe Art Department at Maryvale Preparatory School is pleased to announce the Art Intensive offerings for the 2017-18 school year. We will be offering after-school classes for both Middle and Upper School students currently enrolled at Maryvale and the surrounding community.

Intensives run for four weeks and cost $175 (includes supplies). Register for one course or all three!

Middle School Art Intensives

Photography 'A Whole New Series' (Oct. 9, 16, 23, 30)

Enjoy learning about Digital Photography using a Maryvale Digital SLR camera and the Adobe editing suite. This Middle School Art Intensive will feature new projects and techniques for taking innovative photographs on manual modes. Middle Schoolers enrolled in the course will learn about figure-ground relationships, use professional lighting, and have a chance to edit images in Adobe Lightroom.

Dates: Monday, Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Oct. 23 and Oct. 30

Charcoal Drawing (Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22)

Learn how to draw like a professional artist by learning techniques and tricks in charcoal drawing. Students will utilize professional materials to draw a variety of subjects in grey scale while focusing on shadow and light.

Dates: Thursday, Feb. 1, Feb. 8, Feb. 15 and Feb. 22
Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Pet Portraiture (Apr. 9, 16, 23, 30)

Middle School students will have the unique opportunity to draw their pet or a favorite animal like a professional portrait artist! Students will learn professional colored pencil techniques, tips and tricks for tackling fur and realistic shading, and even capturing expression. Learn to create the perfect rendering of your furry friend.

Upper School Art Intensives

Figure Drawing (Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24)

Enjoy learning the art of Figure Drawing by drawing a real model! Students will develop an understanding of figure proportions and practice a variety of figurative poses while drawing directly from life. This course is open to both novice students looking to learn a new skill and those wishing to enhance their budding drawing portfolios.

Dates: Tuesday, Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24

Watercolor Painting (Mar. 1, 8, 15, 22)

Watercolor is a beautifully delicate material that takes a great deal of practice and forethought to perfect. In this Art Intensive, students will learn the basics of watercolor painting and practice a variety of techniques for laying and masking color areas to create depth of form. Open to watercolor beginners or painters looking to practice their skillset.
