Maryvale’s Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Creativity students spent their morning on March 7 at the T. Rowe Price Innovation Center, where they gained a deeper understanding of project-based problem-solving. During their time at the Innovation Center, the girls learned about user experiences, collaborated with industry professionals and tested their product development skills. Prior to beginning the hands-on activities, the girls met with 10 Innovation Center managers, designer and strategists, including Dennis Elliott, Head of Execution & Scaling; Jen Richardson, General Manager; and Jay Coudriet, Design Lead Manager.
Following the instructional segment, the girls divided into teams and completed a Lego challenge to gain firsthand experience about product ownership, prioritization and effective communication. The girls then completed a Design-a-Thon Workshop in which the three teams each created an app for the same product, but centered on different personas. The process included brainstorming ideas, identifying pain-points and sketching a storyboard. The day concluded with a Q&A session. Under the umbrella of the Leadership Institute, Maryvale students are afforded numerous opportunities throughout the school year to visit area corporations and meet with experts to help build their skillset for college and career.
