Welcome to the Maryvale Preparatory School Library

The library opens each morning at 8:00 a.m. and is staffed most days until 4:00 p.m.

Philosophy

The library at Maryvale Preparatory School provides access to circulating and reference materials, magazines, online subscription databases, and the Internet. Reference assistance is available to students and faculty. Available resources support curricular instruction and leisure-time interests and strong emphasis is placed on providing a wide range of quality books and materials in these areas.

Mission

The Maryvale Preparatory School Library seeks to provide its students with exposure to information across all disciplines in both print and electronic formats. As an integral component of the Maryvale curriculum, the library supports the development of information literacy by helping students to define their information needs, gather their information from a variety of sources, and evaluate the quality of that information. All three of these activities help to hone the skills necessary to become responsible, lifelong, independent learners. In addition, the library emphasizes the value of leisure-time reading as a key element in the education of the mind, body, and spirit.

Borrowing Library Books

Books that circulate (non-reference materials) may be checked out for a three-week borrowing period.  If a student needs a book for more time, the borrower may bring the book to the library to be renewed, or she can request a renewal via email. A book may be renewed once. If a book is not returned within the three weeks, the student will receive an overdue notice as a reminder to return or renew the book.  If, after one week following the 1st overdue notice, the book has not been returned or renewed, the student will receive a second overdue notice.  If the book is not renewed or returned within one week after the second overdue notice is issued, the student's borrowing privileges will be temporarily suspended until the book is returned.  If the book is still not returned or the student has not contacted the library regarding the book, parents will be notified.  Finally, if the book is not returned in a reasonable amount of time it will be regarded as lost and a bill will be issued for payment of the lost/misplaced item.

Photocopies

A coin operated photocopier is available for student use in the library. Copies are ten cents per page.  The librarian is available to assist with student photocopying.
