Endowment and Named Funds
The following individual funds comprise Maryvale’s endowment:
Abby Boehm Merit Award Fund
Abby Boehm Merit Award Fund, named in memory of Abigail M. Boehm ’98, was established in 1998 by her parents, Victor and Antoinette Boehm and her sister, Blair ’01. It is awarded to a Maryvale eighth grade student who exemplifies the character and spirit of Abby. It is given to a young woman who maintains a humanitarian approach to the needs of others, works quietly behind the scenes, does not seek praise for her efforts, and demonstrates respect and kindness for peers, adults and the Maryvale community.
Marie L. Burkhart Endowment Fund
Marie L. Burkhart Endowment Fund was established in January 2005 by Timothy J. Burkhart in honor of his mother, Marie L. Burkhart. It provides financial assistance annually (tuition, books or other expenses) to one ninth grade student at Maryvale Preparatory School.
Castle Preservation Fund
The Castle Preservation Fund was established in 1999 by Maryvale alumna Kathy Murphy Blue '83 for the purpose of providing a future source of funding for the maintenance and beauty of the Maryvale Castle.
Tyler Fick Scholarship Fund
Tyler Fick Scholarship Fund was established in January 2005 by Jeffrey and Page Fick in memory of their daughter Tyler Fick ’99. It provides a scholarship annually for a middle or upper school student who shows exceptional promise and whose family has financial need.
The Edward E. Ford Foundation Endowment Fund
The Edward E. Ford Foundation Endowment Fund was established in March 2006 with a 1:1 matching grant from The Edward E. Ford Foundation to assist Maryvale in providing tuition assistance and scholarships to families who demonstrate need.
John K. Frost Faculty Recognition Award Fund
John K. Frost Faculty Recognition Award Fund was established in 1996 in memory of John K. Frost, M.D. by his wife Moira Frost and daughters Moira ’69, Rosanne ’70, Noreen ’71 and Therese ’71 (Lower School). It provides an annual financial award to a member of the faculty for professional development. The faculty member must be committed to teaching at Maryvale the following academic year, and must use the award to further enrich the intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical and civic development of Maryvale students.
Meaghan P. Gahan Scholarship Fund
Meaghan P. Gahan Scholarship Fund was established by Edward and Mary Agnes Gahan in memory of their daughter Meaghan P. Gahan ’89. The scholarship is awarded to a current middle or upper school Maryvale student who demonstrates strong academic achievement, outstanding performance, commitment to the Maryvale philosophy, as well as financial need. This award is presented to a young woman who exemplifies Meaghan’s concern and caring for others and who encourages others in her generous spirit.
The Grow Grant was established in 2013 by alumna Jennifer Hanley Armstrong `00 and her husband Gregory Armstrong. This annual award is given to a deserving member of the Maryvale faculty or staff dedicated for personal and professional enrichment through education or travel.
Harrison Family Merit Award Fund
Harrison Family Merit Award Fund was endowed in 1987 in memory of W. Lee Harrison, a Maryvale parent who established the Fathers’ Club in 1959 and was its first president. It was established by his family, including daughters Margaret ’64, Anne ’72 and Kathryn ’79. The award provides financial assistance to a current middle or upper school Maryvale student who demonstrates strong academic achievement, outstanding performance, commitment to the Maryvale philosophy, as well as financial need.
Katie’s Fund was established in 2015 in memory of Kathleen “Katie” Brown, mother of Patricia M.C. Brown `78. The purpose of this discretionary scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to exceptional students affected by financial hardship and constraints. Without this aid, these students would be unable to continue their education at Maryvale.
George G. Litz Memorial Lacrosse Scholarship Award Fund
The George G. Litz Memorial Lacrosse Scholarship Award Fund was established by the children of Donald P. Litz - Donald, George, Mary Beth ’77 and Thomas. The award was renamed in 2016 in honor of George G. Litz, former chair of the Maryvale Board of Trustees and father of Laurie Litz Gordon '90, Lacie Litz DeCosta '94 and Maggie Litz Domanowski '97. The award has been given annually since 1991 to recognize a student lacrosse athlete who continually displays outstanding qualities which contribute to her team, her school and herself.
Sister Shawn Marie Maguire Endowment Fund
Sister Shawn Marie Maguire Endowment Fund was created in 2002 by the Maryvale community in honor of Sister Shawn on the occasion of the celebration of her twentieth year as Headmistress at Maryvale. It is intended to make a difference in the life of a student, a class, a faculty or staff member, or in the life of the school as a whole. Its use will be determined by the President.
Carol Malone Excellence in Teaching Endowment
Five alumnae, Stacey Jackson `81, Laura Nolan `02, Kate Nolan Bryden `00, Carol Townsend Jones `80 and Kathleen Birrane `77, have shared their passionate testimonies and treasure with lead gifts, to establish the Carol Malone Excellence in Teaching Endowment. This fund will provide an award to be given annually to a current faculty member at Maryvale, regardless of tenure, whose innovative and authentic approach in the classroom and across campus will inspire a lifetime love of learning and leadership among his or her students.
Maryvale Endowment Fund
Maryvale Endowment Fund was established to provide scholarships, financial aid, and faculty salaries and benefits. Increasing this endowment was an important component of Maryvale’s EXCEL capital campaign.
The Kimberly Erica May Spirit Award Fund
The Kimberly Erica May Spirit Award Fund was established in 1988 in memory of Kimberly E. May ’87 by her parents Eric and Sharon May to provide financial assistance to a current middle or upper school Maryvale student who demonstrates strong academic achievement, outstanding performance, proven evidence of commitment to the Maryvale philosophy, as well as financial need. It is awarded to a young woman who both embodies and exemplifies a joyful and faithful approach toward the values in life, a scholarly approach toward intellectual endeavors, and a humanitarian and justice approach to the needs in our world.
Erinn McCarthy Maryvale Fathers' Club Endowment Fund
Erinn McCarthy Maryvale Fathers' Club Endowment Fund was established in June 2007 by the Fathers' Club to honor the memory of Erinn K. McCarthy ’10. The purpose of the Fund is to provide tuition assistance to students at Maryvale who have financial need.
Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete Fund
Maryvale Sports Boosters established the Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete Fund in 2014, in honor of Maryvale’s Athletic Director from 1961-1976. This fund provides financial assistance to a rising ninth grade student, who demonstrates outstanding academic and athletic potential.
Anne E. Rayburn Endowment Fund
Anne E. Rayburn Endowment Fund was established in January 2006 by A. Kent and Barbara A. Rayburn in memory of their daughter Anne E. Rayburn ’87. The purpose of the Fund is to provide tuition assistance to students at Maryvale who have financial need.
Jill Gidel Smith Endowment Fund
Jill Gidel Smith Endowment Fund was established in December 2005 by Robert and Linda Gidel in honor of their daughter Jill Gidel Smith ’92. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to students at Maryvale who have need.
