St. Julie Billiart Program

Program Overview

The St. Julie Billiart Program serves bright and motivated college-bound young women who range from struggling readers to those with language-based learning differences. Students in this program acquire the necessary skills to achieve educational success as they navigate the rigorous college preparatory classes that Maryvale offers.

Mainstream Learning

As gifted, college-bound students, participants in the St. Julie Billiart Program attend regular college preparatory classes. Their specific learning needs are addressed first through daily 1:1 or 1:2 sessions with SJB staff. The program staff personally configures an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that utilizes proven Orton-Gillingham, Phono-Graphix and other instructional methods that incorporate resources appropriate to each student's profile. SJB staff then collaborates with the student's teachers to develop a plan for effective accommodations for regular course work. The goal for each student is that she develops as a confident, independent reader and writer with strong organizational, time management, study and test-taking skills.

St. Julie Billiart students have access to assistive technologies and other resources that have been configured for their use. Families have regular and direct access to SJB staff. Regular progress reports in each subject are provided with weekly follow-up with SBJ staff to confirm effective participation in the program.
