During the rare moments when I have been able to sit at my desk and look out at the Mary Circle and the Erinn McCarthy Humanities Hall, one quote repeatedly returns to me: “We have been warmed by fires we did not build.” The Maryvale students and I have been handed a remarkable legacy to maintain and enrich. From the powerful vision of St. Julie Billiart to the most recent graduating Class of 2012, the expression is true … We Are Maryvale. Yet, we must remember that to those whom much has been given, much is asked in return. As your new President, I promise to return much, and to encourage your daughters to do the same.
Please join me in extending sympathy to the family of Shannon Brennan '15 on the death of her paternal grandfather.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer. I look forward to seeing you and your daughters back at Maryvale soon.
