Thanks
to our relationship with Towson Sports Medicine, Maryvale Preparatory
School has implemented a concussion evaluation and management protocol
system for our student athletes. ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion
Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a simple,
non-invasive program that helps healthcare professionals properly manage
concussions in all levels of sport.
The ImPact test calculates patient
symptom score, reaction time, visual and verbal memory composites. The
key to successful concussion management is
pre-injury baseline testing. It is required that all student athletes
12 ½ years and older complete the baseline screening prior to the start of
their competitive season. By implementing this test, the athletic
trainers and physicians at Towson Sports Medicine will
be better equipped to manage concussions on an individual basis.
In order for our athletes to be tested, the attached Concussion Information Sheet and Consent Form
must be signed and returned to Terri Moeser, Athletics Director. For more information, please visit www.cdc.gov/concussion
or www.impacttest.com.
The testing dates for incoming freshman and new students will be the week of August 19th through the 23rd from 1:00-3:00 p.m. each day in the computer lab of Rodriguez Center. The ImPACT test will take approximately 20-30 minutes and will be administered by Stephanie McKeever MS, ATC, PES, Maryvale’s athletic trainer.
In order for your daughter(s) to be tested both the Acknowledgement and Authorization Form and the Concussion Information Sheet must be signed and returned to Stephanie McKeever or Terri Moeser by August 19. Please contact Stephanie at 410-828-4876 with any questions.
