To assist parents in understanding how to complete the Parents' Financial Aid Statement (PFS), Maryvale will conduct an information session on Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the Rodriguez Center. The session is open to parents of applicants and those whose daughters are current students. Information provided is specific to our financial assistance program and completing the PFS. If you are unable to attend the session, please click here to view the presentation shared by Monica Graham, Director of Admissions, last year titled "An Introduction to Financial Aid Processing."
If you plan to attend the information session, please contact the Admissions Office at 410-308-8530 or by email grahamm@maryvale.com. If we are unavailable when you call, please let us know how many will attend. If you are reading this the morning of the session and haven't let us know you wish to attend - COME ANYWAY. We'll have room for you.
Financial assistance enables Maryvale to enroll qualified students who may not otherwise have access to a Catholic school education. We are committed to providing access for deserving students and supporting economic diversity in our student population. To this end, we offer financial assistance to families with demonstrated need. Within the constraints of limited funds, we wish to make a Maryvale education possible for every student who is offered admission.
The Committee considers the financial resources of both natural parents before making an award. In the case of divorced or separated parents or parents who have never married, both parents are required to apply. They each file the Parents’ Financial Statement. If either parent remarries, Maryvale does consider the resources of the stepparent, bearing in mind the obligations to his/her natural children.
After an applicant is recommended for admission, if her parents have completed the Parents’ Financial Statement (http://sss.nais.org/Pages/default.aspx), the results are reviewed by the Financial Assistance Committee. Every effort is made to help families afford the cost of a Maryvale education though we expect parents to give their daughter’s education a very high priority in their financial planning. The committee maintains the confidentiality of the information provided by parents and if a family receives a financial assistance grant we expect families to respect our confidentiality as well.
Financial assistance grants are recalculated annually using current year information. Each fall, families who receive financial assistance are required to complete a PFS and furnish supporting documentation so that the Committee can review their need and adjust the award for changes in circumstances and increases in tuition. If a family’s financial situation remains the same from year to year, the school will make every effort to maintain our commitment to your family.
Need-based, merit scholarships are awarded to incoming students in grades 6 and 9 based on broad criteria which include outstanding scholastic performance; demonstrated financial need; teacher recommendations; personal interview; and admissions testing. All families who file a PFS online within the time constraints will be considered for scholarship. To receive scholarship consideration, parents must closely adhere to all deadlines.
Scholarships are renewed annually as long as the recipient maintains a B average and upholds the values and morals of a Maryvale student. Scholarship grants are recommended by a Scholarship Committee based on academic merit, demonstrated financial need and an interview with the committee members. Semi-finalists for scholarship will be contacted in early February and asked to meet with the Scholarship Committee.

Another recently established scholarship opportunity is available through Theresa F. Truschel Charitable Foundation, Inc. Ms. Truschel, who died early in 2007, specified in her will that a foundation be established to provide scholarships and assistance to worthy students attending Catholic schools at all levels based on financial need, past academic performance and potential success.
