Admission Application Process and Timeline

Maryvale welcomes applicants who are able, motivated and eager learners. Application for admission should begin in the fall of the year before the anticipated date of entry. The application process for the 2007-2008 academic year must be completed by January 4, 2008. Please use the following checklist to guide you through the admissions process.

Obtain an admissions packet by contacting the school (410-252-3366), Admissions Office (410-308-0722) or via e-mail (admissions@maryvale.com).

Visit our Open House on November 3, 2007. Families interested in Upper School (grades 9-12) are welcome from 10:00 am until noon. If you are interested in Middle School (grades 6-8) join us from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. Both sessions begin with a formal program followed by student-guided tours. Faculty, parents, board members and students will be available to speak with you about our academic program and co-curricular programs.

Schedule a day for your daughter to "shadow" a Maryvale student. These full-day visits include a personal interview between the applicant, a parent/guardian and a member of the Admissions team. Shadow visits and interviews will be conducted from late-September through mid-January. To schedule a shadow visit and interview time, please contact the Admissions Office at 410-308-0722.

Take an admission test. Applicants for all grades are required to take an admission test. All grade 9 applicants take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) given at Maryvale on Saturday, December 8, 2007. Registration begins at 8:30 AM. Testing begins promptly at 9:00 AM and concludes at noon. There is a $30 fee for the HSPT, payable at the time of registration. Test results will be mailed by the testing agency directly to applicant’s home.

Middle School applicants may take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) at Maryvale on Saturday, January 12, 2008. Registration is completed on-line at www.iseetest.org. Testing begins promptly at 8:30 AM and concludes by 12:30 PM. Test results will be mailed by ISEE to the applicant's home.

Submit the Request for Transcript form to the applicant's current school after the close of the first grading period, granting permission to provide Maryvale with grades, report cards and comment sheets from the previous three years and any/all standardized test scores. Please note: Grade 8 Catholic School students do not need to submit a Request for Transcript if you have indicated Maryvale as a recipient on the Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic High School Information Form (the form includes a release of records).

Submit two Common Referral Forms to the applicant's current teachers after the close of the first grading period. One referral form should be completed by a Mathematics teacher; the other may be completed by either the teacher of Language Arts/English or Social Studies/History. Completed forms should be mailed from the school directly to Maryvale's Admissions Office. Please note: Grade 8 Catholic School students are exempt from this request (the Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic High School Information Form contains a referral that is completed by your current school).

Complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) if you would like to be considered for financial assistance and/or scholarship. The PFS is included in the scholarship/financial assistance packet available from the Admissions Office or online at https://sss.ets.org. Photocopy the completed form (including any attachments) and provide a copy to the Admissions Office. Mail the original PFS or complete the online PFS by January 4, 2008. Forms completed after January 4 may not be processed in time for consideration, especially if SSS returns the form to you because of errors, omissions or the need for clarification.

Mail Application for Admission to Maryvale no later than January 4, 2008. To be considered for admission, complete the Admissions Application, Applicant Questionnaire and Parent Questionnaire and mail to the Admissions Office, with the accompanying $50 application fee and recent photograph of the applicant. If the cost to apply presents a serious barrier for any family, please notify the Admissions Office.

If applicable, provide the Admissions Office with a copy of your daughter's most recent evaluation if she has had a full-scale, psycho-educational evaluation or a comprehensive educational testing profile.

Once complete, each applicant's file is reviewed by the Admissions Committee. After careful consideration, the committee will make a recommendation to accept an applicant, place her in an admissions "wait" pool, defer a decision for further review or deny admission. Decision letters to incoming freshmen will be mailed on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 and to Middle School applicants on Friday, February 29, 2008.

Maryvale Preparatory School does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion and/or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational, admissions or employment policies and scholarship, and athletic and other school administered programs.
